Afro-Punk Screening with James Spooner In-Person
Award-winning filmmaker and graphic novelist, James Spooner, comes to Anaheim Central Library with his new book, It Starts with Anger: A Punk Beginning, An AfroPunk Ending (Pantheon, 2026) and a special screening of his newly restored and colored documentary film, Afro-Punk. A film that focuses on the lives of four African Americans dedicated to the punk lifestyle and Black identity in the scene.
The screening will be followed by a presentation by James Spooner and a talk-back with the audience. Copies of Spooner's books including the multi-genre hybrid anthology he co-edited, Black Punk Now, the American Library Association ALEX award-winning graphic novel, The High Desert (Harper, 2022), and newly released, memoir, It Starts with Anger, will all be available for purchase and signing after the presentation.
